I have some users who when attempting to send a word document as an attachment from within word are unsuccessful. We are standardized on Office 2000 Suite running the latest service packs. It either comes up with a message that says and error has occurred and word will be closed and only option is to click okay or outlook pops up and allows you to input address of recipient but when you click send button nothing happens. If you close the email and choose to save you can then switch to Outlook and it will be there in the inbox and you can open and send.

Is Outlook open (running) when they try to send? I posted a reply to someone a week or so ago where Microsoft says to have Outlook open when trying to send a document via email.

Also -- have they saved the document 1st? I think I have seen this before when the user had created a new document but had not saved it yet.

Yes Outlook is open and the file has been saved. I'm actually experiencing it myself and I'm the system admin with wide open priveleges too.
