Hi all

We have roughly 50 NT machines in our Dublin office.
Since I've started here I'd say there has been more than 1
NT box a month blue screening! One of the most common
reasons being "could not find dynamic link library
winsrv.dll. I'm sure alot of you know the one i'm talking
about!!

My question: What exactly is winsrv.dll and what does it
do ?!

And, whenever this happens I usually resort to a full re-
install but is there a better/ faster way to fix the
problem. Is repairing a good option? I've tried booting
off a floppy and replacing the winnt\system32\winsrv.dll
with a winsrv.dll off a working NT box but the problem
still happens!

Can anyone shed some light on the problem, even just give
me a quick lesson on what winsrv.dll is ??

Thanks alot

Gerry Rigney.

Thanks for the reply kimbertech.

I read that Microsoft document and it is pretty much the same problem as we get here. Currently I install a parallell copy of NT, copy the users files to a server and then wipe the system. Mabey it's a better option than the one suggested in the MS document? At least I can be pretty sure the problem won't crop up again (well for at least another month !!!)

Thanks again, best regards

Gerry Rigney

Glad to have assisted.

Are you not able to use the ERD to repair the installs? Kimber

The more I learn,I realize how much more there is to know!
