I have an old WINS servers that no longer exist but keep popping up in the database as active WINS servers. When I delete the server it pops back in again. I got rid of all refernces of those WINS servers but they keeping coming back. Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks,

BM

Tombstone all instances of the old WINS server. This will replicate to all your other WINS servers.

Deleting it will remove it from the one WINS server, but it will then replicate back once the other WINS servers replicate.

Sorry, looking back on my original post I should have been more specific. If I select a WINS server and Show Database, under the window Select Owner, there is a list of WINS servers. There are four that are no longer in existance. Any ideas?

Thanks,

BM

I have tried alsorts any advice please let us know

If they are no longer in existance remove them from the replication process. Njoy!

If it were only that simple Stealth2K.
dhawthorn, I read the article you posted. Have you ever applied this fix before? And if so do you need to edit all the WINS servers or can I just edit the primary's registry.

Thanks,

BM

bulkmail: Yes I have applied it and it works. You should edit all the servers... I found problems (that were hard to diagnose/pinpoint) when I didn't do so. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Sorry - sounds like a goof here. What is tombstone and how do you do it?
