ok heres the problem

i connect to wins on an ip address (for example 128.11.22.102) then i disconect
now i reconect and it gives me a new ip address e.g.(128.11.22.105)

i know that the way wins works it notices that there is allready my comp name registered with a different ip address in the wins database, and then sends a name query request to the old ip address, and if it gets a positive response from the old ip then it rejects my new connection.. but i am not connected on the old ip address i am connected on the new one. so it shouldnt get a positive response but it is rejecting me...

what other reason could it be rejecting me if it accepted me the first time?

is there a way round this? can maybe you stop it sending a request to the old ip and just overwrite it straight away?

please help asap?
thank you in advance

Darren Goulston.

How big is your network? Could you just use a static ip address for this machine and then create a static mapping in wins so that this problem machine will always be ex: machine at address XXX.XXX.xXX.XXX
