While attempting to start the wins service, a message appears stating:
"Could not start the Windows Internet Name Service (Wins) on Local Computer"
Error 2: The System cannont find the file specified.

I've tried to restore the database but there is no backup. How do you fix this?

The database for your WINS is in \WINNT\SYSTEM32\WINS .

Make a backup of it (stop service first if running), then try removing the service and adding it back.

If the service still won't start, then try removing it, then deleting the contents of the WINS folder, then adding it back in.

This should start the WINS database from scratch. You will unfortunatly loose any static WINS mappings you would of made.
