HI ALL,

I have 1 PDC and 2 BDC's( all NT 4.0) running...I am getting ready to upgrade one of the newer BDC's to 2k with Active Directory...however, my PDC has most of the WINS records and my BDC that I want to upgrade shows no WINS records but it has WINS installed....do I need to replicate the WINS databases? If so, how?

Thank you,

If all your servers are in the same LAN (network subnet) then you only need one WINS to work. The second would just be a backup. I suggest you remove the backup WINS and only keep your main one for now.

Upgrade your machines and THEN install the WINS on a backup DC and start the replication between them. To take a look at it in Win2K, open the WINS module in MMC and take a look at the Replication Partners. Simply add the machine you want to start a replication with.

Don't forget that your clients are using one of the WINS. If your using DHCP, make sure it's properly assigned in the settings when you give out the addresses, or people will start having browsing issues.
