Has anybody ever seen this error:

"The file or directory \WINNT40\SYSTEM32 is corrupt or unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility."

Obviously, I need to run chkdsk, but my concern is with the directory it is pointing to. If chkdsk finds errors will it not further increase my problems if it renames/converts files?

Thanks in advance!

Excellent :)

If you cannot get into windows, it migh be worth letting chkdsk have a go. As long as you have your backup how bad can it get.

Has anybody got a solution if you dont have a backup.

How would you run chkdsk ?

Cheers

Okay, for some reason the server mysteriously rebooted itself...honest. And chkdsk ran autoamatically and all the files are magically there again.
