WinNT to AS400 - truncated message

I am in a Winnt environment with a separate server for queuing through the MQseries client connecting through a VPN to an AS400 running a JDA solution.

The error I get is when I send a message to their queue. It sends but the AS400 at the other end sees the message as truncated. We also cannot open the queue from our end when this happens (error 2059).

The AS400 tech tells me that the queue size is set to 4 megs - the client also reports this. The messages we are putting through are more like 60000 bytes but only the 1st 1024 seems to get through. Can any1 suggest a solution? I am quite willing to blame this all on the AS400 end.

I'm not clear about your setup but I'll make some suggestions anyway!

I'm assuming your topolgy consists of an MQ client on WinNT connecting to a queue manager which has a message channel defined over a VPN to another queue manager running on an AS/400. As VPN products which support the AS/400 are like the proverbial hen's teeth I'll assume that you're using security at the network level, i.e. transparent to MQSeries. I'm further assuming that the complete message is being delivered over the wire as far as the AS/400 TCP subsystem is concerned (I'm assuming TCP rather than SNA).

Why do you say you're messages are truncated? Does your application get an error code saying so? If so, then all you need to do is increase the size of your message buffer (and the buffer length parameter!).

Each queue has a max msg length attribute. Is this big enough for the message (+ the overhead for the message descriptor etc)? And is this true for *all* queues, i.e. transmit queue on the sending queue manager etc?

Cheers,
Paul
