Can I use the ERD disk from one PC to another ?

My PC will not boot up after a software install. the message I am getting is the following:

"unable to start because the following file is missing or corrupt : <winnt root>\system32\hal.dll .
Please re-install a copy of the above" .

It is formated in NTFS therefore can not get the drive to be recognized with a simple Win98 boot disk. Is there another way to reach the drive and simply copy the hal.dll file ?

What can I do

This will show you how to create a boot disk. You could create this from another computer. After doing so you can use the disk to boot the computer and replace the file.

Regards Please provide feedback, good or bad.
And I'm always open to new suggestions or ideas.

Regards
