Hello

When I go to run and type winmsd, I get the System Information window, without the system information. I have the folder list down the left hand side (Hardware Resources, Components, etc), but the main pane tells me: "Can't Collect Information: Cannot Access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing".

Can anyone offer advice on how I may recover these Management files, so that I can populate the main pane?

Many thanks.

Have a look in 'Services'. The 'Windows Management Instrumentation' service should be started automatically and the 'Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions' should be set to manual. These are the default settings.

Also, have a look in the 'Event Viewer' for any WMI-related errors.

Hope this helps...

Have you tried typing MsInfo32 in the Start Run box to see if that opens up System Infomation?

Msinfo32.exe Generates a "Can't Collect Information" Error Message

You Cannot Open Certain System Information (.nfo) Files

Help and Support Center may stop responding in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003

"Help and Support Center" Does Not Collect All the Hardware Information

Many thanks for both of your tips. Msinfo32 brings up the same window as above: can't collect information.

I'll download the links and thread links.

Many thanks again.

Cheers.
