Winmgmt continuosly generates program errors, once every 30 seconds or so. All tips I've found about this problem say to delete the $WinMgmt.cfg file in the C:\WINNT\system32\wbem\Repository folder and then reboot. Unfortunatly this does not work for me. I still get the errors. I've reinstalled the Winmgmt.exe and Winmgmtr.dll files from the original Windows 2k CD and then deleted the $WinMgmt.cfg file and then rebooted, and STILL am getting the errors.

Anyone know what I can do to fix these annoying errors?!

Hello Darxide,

Try something like this.
[1] Disable "Windows Management Instrumentation" from Administrative Tools | Services.
[2] Delete the mentioned $WinMgmt.cfg file in C:\WINNT\system32\wbem\Repository.
[3] Delete/rename winmgmt.exe in C:\WINNT\system32\wbem.
[4] Copy a clean copy of it from servicepackfiles\i386 to the same place.
[5] Reboot and enable the "Windows Management Instrumentation" again.
See if this procedure clean things up.

Thank you tsuji for the advice. I had already fixed the problem shortly after posting this. What fixed it for me was renaming three other files in the Repository directory. They were:

CIM.REC -> Cim.rec.old
CIM.REP -> Cim.rep.old
CIM.$EP -> Cim.$ep.old

When I rebooted, two new files by the names of CIM.REC and CIM.REP were recreated. Apparently, one of those files was corrupt.

If anyone is having problems fixing the Winmgmt error problem, this is a new solution for them to try.

Darxide,

You're quite right. The full length advice goes like what you did, delete the whole contents of the repository and let the system rebuild it upon next reboot. But, some apparently keep reporting do not work for them... So we can only concede with disbelieve, literally at a distance! Am glad you resolve the problem and report back that it does the trick so everybody can see. Thanks.
