Hey there,
I'm having trouble by setting winme up to take it's policy file from my samba server. I have a config.pol on my samba server and that config.pol contains each and avery user that exists in the LAN, i have also netlogon.bat's and they work fine. The problem is that i didn't manage to tell my WinMe clients to take their policies from the samba server. Is there a certain setting i have to make to tell windows to take the policy from the server?
Thanks alot.

In Control Panel > Passwords > User Profiles , set User can customize ... and Control Panel > Network > Client for M. > Properties , Logon to NT Domain .

For future reference, post this in the samba forum.

The policy file should be in the root of the netlogon share. Once a 9x pc is set to login to the domain as panderson posted, the pc should automatically read the file.

I'm assuming you used the 98 policy editor tool to create it? Do you have 98 or 95 clients that do work with the policy you created?

I copied this from a website, this might also help...

"every so often Windows 9x/ME will check the integrity
of the registry and restore its settings from the back-up copy of the registry it stores on each
Windows 9x/ME machine. So, you will occasionally notice things changing back to the original
settings. Install the group policy handler for Windows 9x/Me to pick up Group Policies. Look on the
Windows 98 CDROM in \tools\reskit\netadmin\poledit. Install group policies on a Windows
9x/Me client by double-clicking on grouppol.inf. Log off and on again a couple of times and see
if Windows 98 picks up Group Policies. Unfortunately, this needs to be done on every Windows
9x/Me machine that uses Group Policies"

Thanks for the tip guys :)
I did all you said and yes, i used the win98 CD to install poledit and i made all those options PAndersen said. I created the policy file and put it in the netlogon share. Everything is ok by now but i've asked the same thing on a microsoft forum and someone said that and i would like to paste his oppinion:
"As I have already said:
"Microsoft consider and intended (Win Me) to be used only as a "home" system"

Win Me was never intended to be used as a workstation on a corporate or other
network solely on home peer to peer networks with the result that there is no
Microsoft support for what you are trying to achieve. I'm sorry but you are
basically on your own here and will have to use Google to see how others have
resolved the problem. Crazy I know but that's MS for you."

Now that's not encouraging, not at all. Perhaps he's right because when i created a policy for a win98.win95 workstation it worked and took it's policy fine from the netlogon directory in a second and loaded it and it worked. Why in the world can't a Winme do the same thing :)
I looked up on google and on every possible search engine to find a way to make that Winme load it's policy file but no use. Even the registry keys are OK and regarding this , the workstation should load it's policy file.
Do you guys managed to do this? did you manage to make a Winme load it's policy file?
Thanks again for your suggestions :)

Nope, never use them, just logon scripts.
