Windowx Xp Local Area connection

Hi,

I am running a home network and frequently I get the message saying my "local area connection is unplugged".
This happens without me doing nothing to my network or router. When this happens I get disconnected from the internet and have to renew my IP before I can get back online... What can be done to prevent this error? Should I be looking to change my RJ45 cable?

That would be the most likely and cheapest solution. Could be the network card, but i doubt it.
