Hey everyone!

I am trying to get some applications running on a new install of windows xp pro, and I am able to get all apps running, except I can not connect to my siebel application. It gives me an error saying "THe Siebel Server Communications applet is required in order to run this app. Please close the browser and login using a new browser window"

I am sure that it has to do with the fact that XP Pro does not have microsoft virtual machine installed. The siebel works fine on XP Home, because MS VM is in the list under internet options. All literature I have found says to install VM, you must install service pack 1. Of course, 1 is no longer available, and you have to get 1a, which, has VM removed. I tried installing the SUN JAVA machine, however this does not help, I still get that error. Does anyone have any tips, or knows where I can get microsoft virtual machine so I can connect to my siebel 7 application?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. This is an excellent resource, and I would be lost without it!

Hi!

I tried installing that package referred to in that thread, however I get an error message saying that the package will only upgrade an existing instance of microsoft VM. Since there is not one on the system (hence the request for help), I click ok, and it immediately says "Installation complete" and microsoft VM does not appear in the advanced properties of Internet Explorer.

Any ideas?

I am sorry if I confused things for you.

Microsoft due to a Sun Microsystems court action cannot directly distribute the java virtual machine. So, the workarounds:

. If you have a certain Hotfix installed, Windows Update will update the MJVM to the most recent version. This is the approach suggested in my earlier link. So, the indirect route is to install the Hotfix (legal), and let Windows Update update the Hotfix (legal). I hope this site that offers step-by-step instructions for using this approach makes it clearer for you than my earlier attempt to do so:
. Direct Download. The links I provided from MS still work. It sounds like you tried to patch without the direct download base or core MJVM installed. These links are working as I tested both before typing this:

. Look at the last link "Here" on this page: This is updated as needed.

. It is easy to do with links outside the USA. e.g.

bcastner, thanks so much for your help!!! I looked through all of the links you sent me, and I installed the download I got from and I can now log into Siebel! Thanks a lot! You saved me a LOT of work LOL

Glad you got the issue sorted.

Best,
Bill Castner
