Windows XP taskbar problem

I have a computer that was loaded with viruses and spyware. I got it cleaned out, but then I was left without a taskbar. I ran sfc /scannow and I got it back. Now my problem is that when I minimize an open window it minimizes on top of the taskbar not to the taskbar. I kind of minimizes to a small title bar right above the start button and then it adds them next to the last one. So I need to know how I can make them go to the taskbar and not on top of them.

Thanks, but I already tried kellys fixes. I went ahead and did a Windows repair on it and all is good now. Thanks for the help anyways.
