I have several Windows XP clients on an existing NT4 domain that I need to join a new 2003 domain. What is the best way to keep their local profiles intact during the transition? I have several sites that need this done, and so far a staffer has gone desktop to desktop copying profiles. Is there a way to do this progmatically?

I think I had to do something very similar in the past. You don't want to go around to each XP workstation and copy profiles...so that the end user has the same look and feel that they had on the old domain.

I think you can configure roaming profiles in the old NT 4.0 domain. Start with just one account to prove the theory. Once you configure the roaming profile, you will have to log into and out of the domain once to have the profile copied.

Then copy this users profile to the new W2K3 domain (in the location that you specify for the users profile).

Join this xp workstation to the new domain.

Have the user logon....see if the profile downloads from the server properly.

-hope this helps...
