Hello.

Everything was working fine for a couple of months then all of a sudden one of my computers can't be accessed. I havn't changed any users or network settings so I dunno whats up.

I have a network setup throug a 10-port hub. I disabled simple file sharing. I have added users and passwords for log ins and added them to a group "Home". The "Home" group is added to the permissions for the specific folder. (again, this was working fine for months).

Setup:
Computer1 - Not Accessable but can access all others (problem comp)
Computer2 - Accessable to all network comps
Xbox - Accessable to all network comps

They both have the same users/groups/passwords setup and it was working fine.

Problem:
This is the error I get trying to connect to Computer1:

\\whatever is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the admin.....

Logon failuer: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer

I have searched MS and google and it says basically I don't have local access to the computer1 with this info. But I do, its the same as what I use to logon on Computer1 and Computer2. I also tried setting up a new user/password but still same thing.

I have also tried going thr the Network Setup Wizard. nothing.

I tried enabling Simple File Sharing and still nothin.

Again, this worked fine until today. Tried rebooting ect.

Any suggestions?

Matt

On the problematic ones, from the command prompt, have you tried
Code:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
[CODE]
It may or may not complain about DHCP/DNS, depending on what you've set up, but after that it normally works fine. I have to do this on two of the laptops on my network every time I reconnect them.

Can you ping computer 1? Is its firewall interfering with access?

Have a look at the Winsock fix.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

You can check the Group Policy settings in this location, see what the various policies say about accessing the computer.

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment

nope, that didn't work.

I have not had this problem before. So renewing ect. ip addy shouldn't matter is this case.

YEAAAAAAAAAA. It's working again.

This is what I did to fix it.

"You can check the Group Policy settings in this location, see what the various policies say about accessing the computer.

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment"

When I got in thter the "Access this computer from the network" had nothin in the "Security Setting". So I went into the properties in there and added my "Group/Users" and everything is working fine again.

Thank you very much!!!!
