windows xp oem systems

is there an issue with windows xp preinstalled oem systems.
the errors unmountable_boot_volume and \windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt seem to appearing alot on oems even though there is no xp uncompatible software installed. also it happens when the updates are downloaded on these systems.
Could it be down to the way the drives are "flashed" or is it another problem.
