Hi Guys,

I am trying to install Internet Information Service on my PC, with Win XP Professional Service Pack 2. THe installation asks for Windows XP installation CD. But I installed XP on my machine using Windows XP boot floppy disks. So I don;t have a installation CD. My question is

Is there any way I can create a installation CD using the boot floppy disks. Or is it possible to create a installation CD from the system running the Windows XP Pro Serv Pack 2.

Thanks in advance
Mallik

That doesn't make sense unless you had like 300 floppies to contain the windows setup files.

If you just initiated the install via floppies, and don't have a Windows setup CD, you should then most likely have a partition (maybe hidden) on you hard drive that contains the Windows setup files. Point the IIS install to that location.

If you can't you might need to borrow a Windows setup Cd so the IIS install can get the files it needs

Windows XP Pro, install needs only 6 setup floppies.
I made these setup floppies from microsoft.com, and using those, I installed Windows XP.

Thanks in advance

Mallik,
I think you are a bit confused. The setup program that you can download and use to make setup disks on 6 floppies does not contain the Windows XP operating system. It only contains enough information needed to boot to the initial XP setup interface where you select the hard drive partition to install XP on. This setup still requires the XP CD to copy files to the hard drive to perform the rest of the setup process.

The purpose of using these floppies is in case your motherboard or CD-ROM is outdated and doesn't support the boot feature (all XP discs are bootable).

This link talks about that:

Microsoft said:
You must use the Windows XP CD-ROM to finish the Setup process.

It is also NOT possible to create an XP CD from an installed operating system.

As cdogg pointed out, those 6 floppies just initiate the install process, Windows XP installation needs to look somewhere for the operating system files (about 600MB of operating system files) . It can either be a CD, or as I said a partition on your hard drive.

If you don't have a Windows CD then you need to find that partition that contains the setup files and point the IIS setup to it. If its hidden and cant be accessible normally you might need to borrow a Windows CD.

You don't seriously believe a 1.5Gigabyte operating system like windows fits in only 8MB of floppies do you?

Ok...I agree with you guys.

How can I install IIS on my PC now. I don't have a Windows XP CD.

Thanks in advance

There are suggestions at this link:

You are going to need the XP CD (and in some cases, the one you installed Windows with and one with SP2 integrated).

You need to either borrow a Windows CD so it can get the files, or find the files in your hard drive and point it to that location.

Your setup floppies got the the files to setup windows from somewhere.

As i said I'm guessing its a hidden partition or drive letter in your hard drive. If you go into My Computer is there anything else besides C:\ and your CD drives?
