I have 2 Win XP Home machines, I am tying to network them. I am going through a linkSYS hub, the lights on the hub are lit, NIC lights are lit on computers, on "Computer 1", "Computer 2" is listed under Workgroup computers, but cannot access it. On Computer 2 1 is not listed. I can't ping either computer, but loop back ping works. I was thinking hub probs. Any ideas on what to do, I have tried everything other than crossover cables, and replacing the hub. Any other ideas before I start replacing these. Ive also replace the NIC's.

Are you using a Linksys hub or did you mean router (like a BEFSR41)?

I have a home network with 5 PCs (XP Home, XP Pro, ME, Win98, 2000) hooked to a linksys router (BEFSR41) that is hooked to my cable modem.

If you are using the router, set up the NICs for DHCP. The router has a DHCP server and that takes care of the IP config. If you just have a hub then you will need to manually setup your IP addresses and subnet masks, etc.

To see what everything is setup to open a DOS window and type "ipconfig /all" on each XP box.

Hope this helps
