Windows XP Home Hangs up at "Welcome" 2

Then last couple of days my daughter's computer hangs up at the "welcome" window for 10 to 15 minutes before it opens to the desktop. Once it fully loads there is a popup that warns you that Virtual Memory is low. I adjusted the Virtual Memory to about 3x the installed RAM. This did not solve the problem. I ran Norton & Spyware with no results.

try running windows xp in safemode and see if it boots quicker? and run scandisk...
have u installed new software/drivers/hardware lately

or updated something?
