After closing Internet Explorer the box comes up to disconnect from the internet. If you say yes the computer will freeze and a box will appear in the system try saying 'Auto Disconnect'. I tried running sfc /scannow and making sure all the updates have been loaded from microsoft. Any ideas?

After streaming lining the statup group, runing spybot and removing norton so there was nothing running, I found out that it was the modem driver that needed updated. Apparently one of the windows updates affected the modem. Thanks for all your input.
