Hi,

I have a big problem, the windows xp spanish that I am trying to install on a laptop isn't boot and the laptop doesn't have a floppy disk drive, so I cannot use the floppy made by microsoft.

I tried to boot from a regular CD and then start the installation but it tells me that setup cannot be started in dos.

I then decided to format the harddrive in an other machine an put the installation folders on it, but I cannot format the harddrive "system"

Is there anyway to start the installation?

I'm already gonna have tons of trouble to understand the different steps of the installation in spanish... having trouble to start the installation is very frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

See if you can use these links to get going? It may be necessary for you to have access to a machine with a floppy drive to easily create a bootable CD with software like Nero.

If you don't have access to another machine you can however look at these possible workarounds.

Project #1: Starts Here!
Did you see the possibilities using WinImage?!

"Without having a floppy drive, you can download probably any of the floppy boot disk (.exe) files on BootDisk.com designed to create a floppy boot disk, use WinImage to open the 'hidden' floppy boot image file inside that '.exe' program file, and use that image file to create an '.IMA' CD/DVD boot sector image file that your burning program can use to create a bootable CD or DVD!"

Once you have a bootable CD try this.

Thanks a lot for the links!

I followed the "307848 - HOW TO: Start Setup from MS-DOS in Windows XP

and using a windows 98 installation CD, I started in MS-Dos, and was able to run the i386\winnt command (weird, It doesn't seem to show up on the CD as an executable file)

Anyway, the installation is underway,
Thanks a lot!

Maybe I'm missing something here, but you said you tried to boot from a "regular CD". I'm not sure what that means.

The XP CD is bootable. I'm assuming you've tried it by setting the CD-ROM drive as the first boot device in the BIOS?

I tried to boot from the Windows XP Spanish, but it wouldn't start the installation.

By regular CD I meant old style boot CD, and to boot from that CD, my 1st boot device was the Cd-rom.
