Over the past 10 days I have run into (3 times) a XP upgrade problem. Trying to install I get ' Setup cannot find a previous of windows .....)' . Once with XP Pro upgrading NT and twice XP Home with Win98, any ideas ?

All Versions of Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation, Server, Enterprise, and Terminal Server) require Service Pack 5 to be installed prior to upgrading to Windows XP. You cannot upgrade any of the Windows NT 4.0 Server products to Windows XP Home or Professional editions. NT 3.5 does not qualify for an upgrade. If any of the NT versions was an OEM release it would report the error as well.

For Win98 releases if you have removed the Windows directory XP would report the error you stated. Also, if the Win98 installation was an OEM installation it also would report the error.

OEM versions do not qualify for upgrades to XP.
