Hello,

does anyone know if its possible to configure windows update to run automatically in a domain/active directory environment?

Or does anyone know the easiest way to do all those windows updates that come out automatically. I've read a bit on Intellimirror etc, but it seems very complicated.

Cheers Simon

You can, but it is a very bad idea on a server, as some of the updates will require the server to restart. That can be very annoying during working hours and even result in loss of data!
What you can do is have 2000 check for updates, have it download them, but not install them.
There will be an icon in the systray 'Updates ready to install'. At that time, you can execute the updates at your convinience.

HI.

You can edit the Group Policy of the Domain (or any OU of it), and force automatic updates on all workstations that have WIN2000 SP3 or higher, and WINXP SP1.
For older SP level, you should deploy latest SP first...

You do that by using the WUAU.ADM template which is installed in your WINNT\INF folder or you can download it from here:

This file is part of SUS but you can use it by itself without installing the complete SUS server.

SUS is a free service, that you can use to create your own Intranet Windows Update site.
Depending on the number of workstations you have, and the Internet bandwidth, this can save some bandwidth but more then that it can give you more control over the auto update process.
