We've managed to setup automatic updates for our locked down PC's via group policy after resolving an issue with the proxy config. We've now noticed that on machines which have both "windowsupdate.log" and "windows update.log" were getting success download logs in the "windowsupdate.log" file only. However with computers with only the older windows update file there is no additional activity recorded - nor is a new windowsupdate.log file created. I assume this has something to do with versioning. PC's with the older winupdate version aren't fetching updates even though we know the group policy has filtered thru to each machine.
Should it be doing this? does the latest version need to be downloaded manually? or should it pick it up anyway.

Regard the penultimate line of the log, Windows update has now been configured to fetch scheduled updates thru group policy. Although the windows update icons aren't accessible because they are locked down environments.
Should it be doing this? does the latest version need to be downloaded manually? or should it pick it up anyway.
