Windows Update problem

I just installed winXP and I am trying to go the updates and patches. I go to windows update site and it tells me that there are not any updates at all. I dont have SP1 or any patches at all. It just keeps telling me there are no updates to install. I deleted the windowsupdate folder as one website had suggested. That didnt help at all. Any help would be appreciated.
