Windows Update failure after IIS installation 1

On XP Pro with all SPs and critical updates installed, windows udpate worked fine. Then I installed IIS from the CD distribution medium. Since then, Update does the search for updates and says that there are none (and it does this much too quickly). This is wrong, because it no longer reports the non-critical updates that it used to report, and which I did not wish to install, and because it does not find new updates, like 816093, which was released after I did the IIS install.

Has anyone found a solution to this specific type of problem?

Check the date on your computer. Mine did the same when I had the dare wrong.
