Hi there...anyone ever seen this? Trying to configure a Belkin Wireless Router, and this is the message I get every time. Then took everything off line....hooked cable modem directly to PC...so there is nothing but the pc, the cable modem and the nic....can't get an IP address, when I do an ipconfig /renew I get an error that say 'Can not find the file'....however, it doesn't tell me WHICH file it can't find!

Thanks guys!
John

Two steps:

1. Cable systems usually use MAC authentication. This is a hardware code number on the last interface used with the cable system. Bcastner's rules:

a. I do not care if the cable modem has an on/off switch. Unplug it for at least one full minute, 5 minutes preferred;

b. Only connect the upstream device (your PC or router) when the cable modem, now plugged in, is stable with its lights.

2. Set your TCP/IP properties to "Obtain an IP address automaticly" and every other setting should be empty.

3. Now that it works for your modem-to-PC connection, start at step #1 again to try your router. [But] first connect your router directly to your PC and clone your IP addresss to the router. IPCONFIG /All will show as your physical address the MAC of your ethernet board. Use that as the clone address (no spaces and no "-" when you enter the number in the router table.)

3b. Now power off the PC and the router. Start with step #1 (no on/off switch, unplug the modem). Connect the router and let it stabilize. Then start the PC.
