I have a 133mhz,3 gb hdd,64 mb of ram on this computer. On preforming a clean install of win 98 on a freshly fdisk, formatted hard drive I receive this messages "Windows requires 7340032 bytes available on your C:"then the computer freeze up.Thank you for any assistance.gypsy200

Sounds as if something has gone wrong with either your partitioning or your format. Suggest you run fdisk again and check the size of your primary partition. If this is ok try formatting it again. If it is still no good try deleting all partions and starting over from scratch.

Hi, and thanks for your time and help. I did a new fdisk, however at 94% of formatting I received "trying to recover allocation unit 734.708. After 3-4 minutes "format teminted".
I fdisk several times but get the same results each time. Thanks gypsy200

What you need to do is, get the HARD DRIVE manufacturers dianostic software, from their website, and run that on your hard drive.

It's all DOS........ you just need a simple Win98 BOOT DISK.
Make a BOOT DISK with "copy system files only" and use that in conjunction with the DIANOSTIC software.

It will verify the condition of your hard drive, and take the mystery out of your problem (as it relates to the hard drive).

Hi thanks for the tip, will do.gypsy200

An old drive, possibly on the way out. My thinking is that an awful lot of bad sectors have emerged, eating into the useable space. If thet is the case, it's new drive time I'm afraid. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

That happend to me a few weeks ago. I Fdisked a couple of times and it went away.
