I am sure this is a rare one but not sure the best place to post this.
So we had problems on running windows update and I visted this page for help:
The advice was to run a command line to reset the security descriptors on the windows update service. Unfortunately if you copy/paste the web info to command prompt, it will run the command incomplete and essentially assign an incomplete/invalid security descriptor to my windows update service.
So now, the windows update service does not even show in list of services. If I attempt to net start or net stop it, it says access denied.
Attemps to use the "sc" command line on the windows update service also always say access denied.
Attempts to reregister the windows update dll's also fail.
Does anybody know a method to take ownership or somehow reset the security descriptors of a windows service? I am familiar with NTFS security and all that, but no go.
