I am migrating one of our servers (not PDC or BDC - used for SQL Server, dept applications and printers) from Win2K Server to Win2003 Server.

Obviously the plan is to copy over the relevant data etc to the new server, take the original server offline and give the new server the name and IP of the old server.

I have taken the registry keys for the shared printers from the old server and reproduced these on the new server. The question is will there be any issues for client machines using the printers? The share name is exactly the same as will be the name and IP of the server. Will I have major problems with printing when the users arrive next morning?

I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't overlooking anything.

Thanks...

you'll need to remove the old pc from the domain, then jopin the new one...
they wont have the same SID, so it wont be able to connect to the domain using the same name otherwise.

for the printers...
as long as you have the same printers, with the same share rights and share name on your new pc, it should be fine.

Suggest using printmig util from MS to do your printers if you have a lot of them. Backs up all the shares and the drivers to a .cab file and you then do a simple restore on the target server.

I make a printmig backup of my print server whenever I add a new queue or driver in case it ever fails and I have to quickly move everyone to a new server.
