When trying to go into Active Directory Users and Computers, I am met with the following error message:

"naming information cannot be located because: class not registered"

This is on our only server, which also has Exchange 2003 installed. This is a new one by me, can anyone help?

Thnx.

Instead of opening AD Users and Computers, try to open and built your own MMC.

Start -> RUn -> MMC

go through this utlity to create an MMC that has the AD Users and Computers.

Also, check out these articles (I know that these articles related to Windows 2000 but they still might be accurate):

Thanks for the response, but none of those suggestions work. Using MMC resulted in the same message.

Thanks.

You don't tell us where you are trying to get to the AD users and computers. Are you trying from the DC, or are you trying from another computer?

I'm trying the the one and only server, which is the DC.

Thanks, but no luck. There are no proxy services running. I think the key differentiation between my problem and most of the suggestions is that I get the "class not registered" message. Very odd.

This is an interesting problem. I would say that there were some errors while installing Active Directory, and that is causing the problem.

Call Microsoft for support, or, rebuild.

Is weird isn't it. I don't think there was a problem installing AD as the server has been online and working fine for almost a year now.

How long has it been since you were able to get to the "users and computers" snap-in? I know you stated that it worked fine for over a year, so at some point you were able to get into "users and computers" correct? Now the question is, what has changed since you were last able to get in?

AS far as I know and can see nothing has changed on the server. We can use the Active Directory support tools installed on a workstation to add users and change passwords.
