We have a Windows Screensaver (3D Text) working well in terms of timing and lack of hangups. When the screensaver kicks in with an active native-Windows app running, the return from the screensaver (as expected) is to the app's window on the Desktop. However, for a DOS app running full-screen via a Desktop Icon, the return from the screensaver is to an item in the Task Bar that must be clicked to restore the app's screen that was active when the screensaver kicked in.

This situation is a source of confusion for several users. They don't recognize (see or understand) the Task Bar item and start another copy of the app via the Desktop Icon.

Is there a resolution to the situation?

The only way I know of is not to allow the screen saver in the PIF for the application. That will prevent the screen saver from running if the application is left open.

Today's screens don't burn in like they did years ago, so screen savers are mostly aesthetics except for the ability to lock the workstation and/or hide the screen contents from prying eyes.

However some of the giants in the XP Pro forum might have a solution, you might try posting there.
