Hello all, This could be hardware I suppose but I wanted to hit here first.

Equipment is a Compaq DL 380 Generation 5. Windows 2003 R2 server installed with Service pack 2 and all updates.

Problem is when you choose shutdown from the start menu or shutdown - s from the command prompt the windows boxs says it is shutting down but instead reboots everytime.

Any ideas?

Not familiar with this hardware but some servers have bios setting that do this.

Some also have shortcuts for powerup you can set like press a key to power-on etc that some KVMs can trigger with their keep alives.

Sounds like some kind of system failure is occurring. Go to Control Panel >System >select the Advanced tab >click the 'Settings' button under 'Startup and Recovery'. Uncheck 'Automatically restart' under 'System failure' and click 'OK'. Now try shutting down your computer and see if you get a BSOD. Post back any error message you get.

I had a system that did that a while back and discovered it had a trojan installed that wouldn't let it be shut down. I don't remember the name of it, but relatively speaking, it was a minor one.
