After I load in Dial Up Networking and reboot the computer I get a screen that just says windows protection error, you need to restart your computer. And I can only start in safe mode but it is fine after I uninstall DUN . Anyone have any Ideas??

I have a 486 toshiba laptop running win95.

Thanks
Jay

I assume this is the same laptop (without CD or network connection) you referred to in an earlier message
thread. If so, you got the Windows CAB files from another PC. Two possibilities to check are:
1) the CAB files were not corrupted when transfered to diskette or other.
2) VERY IMPORTANT: Check the exact version of 95 on each PC by right clicking on My Computer and going
to properties. Make sure they are EXACTLY the same. Mixing Windows 95a release files with b release files
creates all sorts of problems.
Also, from safe mode, go to the network properties (through control panel) and note all the settings and include them in a subsequent e-mail.

I accually found the cab files on the system itself
so they are all from the same version that is loaded on the computer so I don't know what else it could be HOW about memory she does not have very much of that left at all
Help me please
thanks

Window Protection Error:

NORTON UTILITIES
CRASHING THE SYSTEM and Y2K TESTING RESULT

Don’t panic; first and foremost

Error message at the top of the screen:

"While initializing device IOS:
Window protection error
You need to restart your computer"

Reboot computer in ‘safe mode’
Go to Explorer

Rename the following files:

C:\windows\smartdrv.exe to smartdrive.old
C:\autoexec.bat to autoexec.old
C:\config.sys to config.old

Reboot the computer and your network signon should come up; the above files should be replaced and by ok

Go back into explore and do a ‘find’ for any files with ‘nu’ in them dated for the date your installed Norton Utilities. Delete these from your system. IF YOU HAVE NORTON ON YOUR SYSTEM; IF NOT, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.

Reboot and all should be well; hopefully.
Go to microsoft.com and download DUN 1.3 and try installing that. That's the latest upgrade and should work with any version of 95.
