Got this problem of maintaining our OS

In our lab, we have about 3 types of users. I want to create a policy/profile for each type. Ex:

User name - CT101
Programs allowed to use - Word & Powerpoint

User name - CT102
Program allowed to use - Excel & Access

User name CT-103
Programs allowed to use - Windows OS & Word

Some notes: No user must must have administrative rights. And only the allowed programs per user should be loaded/run. I just want them be classfied as Users not Power Users

Is this a domain or a workgroup? If domain, you might be better posting in forum96 (2k server).
If workgroup, you could have a look at local group policy editor (run gpedit.msc). User Configuration|Administratove Templates|System has some possiblities (eg, Run only allowed windows programs). This may not be exactly what you need, as it can't be targetted at particular group. Also look at to prevent Administrator being locked out too.

You might want to apply appropriate security settings on the apps concerned (assuming ntfs) as well to increase effectiveness. Also, if you supply each of your 'groups' with a mandatory profile, with just apps for each available.. (don't know if your users are likely to go looking for 'extras'). You'd need to give them somewhere else to save documents (or relocate their 'My documents' folder) if you use a mandatory profile.

thanks wolluf!

no these pcs are not in a network (domain/workgroup). they are simply stand alone pcs but there are several users in every pc
