Hello,

We have a customer that sends scanned documents to us in .tif format. Last week all of the files that get sent to one user just say "No Preview Available".
If the same file is sent to me I can see the documents just fine.
If the first user forwards the file to me I get the "No Preview Available" when it gets to me.
Both PC's running Windows XP Second Edition.

Any Ideas?

Thanks Bob

has the other person knocked off the .tif extension by accident?

Another thing that I have noticed:
Once the file has been on the PC that is having the problems
if I check the properties of the file.tif and check the summary tab it says "summary properties are unavailable".
If I check the properties on my machine that does not have a problem I see width, height, .... Title, Pages, .... etc.

If I take a file from My PC on disk to the PC that is having the problem I can read it.

If I send the same file via EMail then I cannot read it.

Sounds like a file or files on the problem pc may have been corrupted.

You might try do a defrag on the problem pc. I've seen fragmentation do some pretty strange things.

I would also ask the customer if they have changed anythinf and explain what is happening.

Are there any entries in any of the event logs relating to this issue?

If the above doesn't work, you may need to reinstall the OS (or try a repair install).

reinstall the OS to see a .tif file?? Seems a little drastic!

Have you tried a different program on the affected machine? Is the file association set up correctly?

I have came accross not being able to read a file when emailed but you can when viewed through a folder etc...its usually down to the file association where windows doesn't know which program to use.

Thats pretty common in my experience.

It is starting the correct program, just cant seem to see anything in it.

If I check the properties of the file that is e-mailed to the machine with a problem I cannot see some of the properties mentioned above that I see on all .tif files sent to me.

How about trying another program to view these? I highly recommend Irfanview, an excellent, quickly loading, FREE graphic viewer. It also can manipulate graphics to some extent, if you want to resize, change resolution, enhance colors, and perform a few other functions as well.
