I want to create my pagefile on another disk however, if the server crashes, it will not dump memory. Is there a way around this perhaps in a registry setting?

I would be running these win2k and win2k3 servers as virtual machines on ESX 3 and I want to use ESXRanger to backup the individual .VMDK files. So, I want to make sure that the C drive is as small as possible. Since I do not need the pagefile backed up at all, I would like to move the pagefile to another virtual disk that I do not back up. However, the requirements in my environment are such that I must be able to have the memory dump information in case of a crash.

Thanks in advance

Use more than one page file. Create a small one on the C drive and larger one where you want.

That way you will still get the crash dump.

Create the new pagefile first. Then set the pagefile to zero on the C drive. The system will issue you a warning of the minimum size needed for the crash info. Set to that value and reboot and you are done.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Mark,

Thanks for the reply but I am looking for a way to have no pagefile on C yet still be able to get memory dumps in the event of a crash.
