Any admins know if I deploy AD on Windows 2003 server with an NT 4.0 server in the domain if there will be any problems. When I try to it says that Windows NT 4.0 SP2 and prior will not be able to access domain resources. The NT4 box if our current file server. The 2003 box is being setup to replace it.

Will the Windows 2003 server be your PDC? Wisdom has it that the first server upgraded to W2K3 should be the PDC.

See my post in thread55-717213.

Cheers.

PDC? After windows NT there is no such thing as PDC or BDC. They all replicate. Our mail server which is currently Win 2K holds the master schema but that should not make a difference.

Sorry, a typo, I should have asked if the W2K3 server was going to be a DC.

If you're going to a mixed domain from NT 4.0 my understanding is that the first NT4.0 server to be upgraded to W2K3 must be the NT4.0 PDC, which would then make it a W2K3 DC.

Since we're going directly from NT4.0 to W2K3 without having any W2K servers(DC or otherwise)I don't know how it works if W2K holds the master schema.

Cheers.

My experience is, as long that you don't have NT4 DC's you will not have any problems. Do you still have NT4 servers with a service pack as less as 2 ??? You should at least put SP4 on them.
