I have a Seagate Travan STT 20000N. Just recently I have been experinecing some errors that I just can't seem to get atround. On every tape I attempt to do a backup on several tapes (HP Travan 20GB cartridge C4435A)but I keep getting the following error: Tape device reported an error on a request to write a file mark to tape. Error reported unrecognizable data. I get this error on all my tapes...I've even bought new tapes. I also get this message when I attempt to erase the tape...even though it's a blank tape. Anyone have any ideas??

Are there tape drive cleaners available...like the kind used for VCR Head cleaning??

Apparently there are cleaning "tapes" available, but I just use cotton swabs moistened with alcohol, cleaning all the drive components that contact the tape.

Check you system log for any Event ID 7,9,11,15 usually its drivers or hardware problem.
