windows nt backup restore utility

i have downloading this utility from microsoft, as i have several backup tapes of data, i want back on my new Vista system - i did the backups on a windows xp pro system.

when i try to use this - i can't force a catalog of the tape.

straight away it gives me this error:

"This set cannot be catalogued because the media containing the set data is missing"

Why doesn't it let me force a catalog of the tape?

Bizzare!! Ive tried running the util as administrator - still same msg

I have looked at this:

but the group had the correct permissions by default.

This utility requires that the Removable Storage Management feature is enabled"

To turn on Removable Storage Management in Windows Vista:

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows Features on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Select the check box next to Removable Storage Management to turn the feature on, and then click OK.

Restore Windows XP and 2003 .bkf Backups in Windows Vista and Longhorn Server with NT Backup Restore Utility

Are you able to restore this data to a XP machine, copy it to some other media, or transfer it via the Network to the Vista machine?
