I recently installed Windows XP Home Edition and would like to uninstall the Windows Messenger. It keeps popping up with new updates to the Messenger system etc and drives me crazy. I've tried deactivating it from the msconfig box but it still shows up at bootup. I can't find anything that will let me uninstall that feature. Anyone know of any way to do this? Thanks for any ideas!

The two rules for success are:
1. Never tell them everything you know.

I've just deleted the files in the messenger folder in c:\program files. It gave me no errors after that. The next step was going postal and throwing my computer out the window. God, Microsoft is trying to RAM MS Messenger down our collective throats.

Thanks so much rjkrash! I went to that tip and uninstalled it. Finally! Thought I'd never get that thing off my computer and I see that it's really buried in the windows directory. Thanks for your help!

thank you for that tip....i installed an update with windows messenger in it, and it reinstalled but despite the 'hide' having been removed from sysoc.inf, it still wouldnt show up in add/remove.....the run command worked however.

thanks much!
