Alright this is really annoying. Ever since I upgraded from WIN2k to XP PRO I have two versions of Messenger running.

Windows Messenger runs silently in the background with no systray icon. However if someone sends me an instant message, it pops up on the systray. It looks like an old old version also.

I installed MSN Messenger from the website and now I get "you have signed in to messenger on another computer" and logs me out.

How do I get rid of windows messenger?

what you need to understand is that windows messenger and msn messenger are two completely different instant messenger applications. You really don't need to delete windows messenger ( this comes with windows xp) all you have to do is shut it down and make sure it doesn't start up at windows start up.

oh if you use an msn account here's a tip, do not under any circumstance remove msn messenger since it carries the msn explorer dialer ( if you remove you will get an error telling you that you need to install messenger.)
