I know this is not a Windows ME forum but thought somebody may be able to assist.
I am running Windows ME, in Start/Settings/Control/Panel/System/Performance/File System/Troubleshooting, I found a checkbox with a check mark for “Disable System Restore”
I removed the check, saved, rebooted but the check mark keeps coming back.
How can the check be removed?
I would appreciate your advise.

Start > Run MSCONFIG Startup tab
untick *StateMgr
statement or somesuch
==================
------------------
Microsoft’s PC State Manager Stub. STATEMGR, present only in Windows Millennium Edition (Windows ME), is not a Task List item, it is purely a startup item which does its job at Windows boot?up of starting STMGR, the memory resident part of the PC State Manager, and then terminates while Windows continues booting up. STATEMGR is part of the Windows ME’s System Restore feature and checks on boot-up how much time has elapsed since the last automatic or manual Restore Point and, if necessary, creates a new Restore Point. Once Windows has started, its alter ego STMGR then checks whether vital Windows system files were overwritten by older files by a recent installation of 3rd party software, and restores them to their previous level when necessary.

Recommendation :
Essential to the proper and safe running of your Windows ME PC – leave alone.
-----------------

well - don't keave it alone if you're trying to disable system restore

TekTippy4U,
Thanks for the info, I had previously been in Conhfig/Startup and removed the ticks from several Items to reduce clutter in the System Tray and release resources.
I have now placed a tick in StateMngr and the tick in Troubleshooting/“Disable System Restore” has gone, yet to place a restore point.
Sorry to be a pain, but are there any more ticks I should place back in Config\Startup?.

well yes....depending
dunno ME that well - in 98 Scanregw.exe /autorun is what creates the REG backup at midnight of each new day
Are you trying to get rid of a virus?
the site I posted has a ton of info on each startup item .
