Here's another one: When I try to open certain programs (most), Windows 98 is trying to open multiple programs at the same time and locking up. The programs do not get opened. It is like two people trying to put a key into a keyhole. Only one will work but if the two can get started, then neither one opens the door.

Got any ideas? Butch

Neat analogy, but I'm still unclear what the problem is. Does this happen with every program you try to start? What other program does windows try to start when you try to start the program you want? Does it list any errors or just lock up the system? I'm confused... X-)

You haven't related any error messages, please do so.
Also try this. Highlight the program you wish to run with a SINGLE click, then press the enter key. You may be having a problem with your mouse. Don Swayser

Problem is that the system locks up when attempting to load more than one program. It seems to happen when I am running Outlook Express and then try to run Internet Explorer. Once those programs are running, then an attempt to load another Program--whatever--causes the computer to lock up. I might be running another copy of IE to search, or a chat program, or my family tree program. Just any attempt to load another program will slow down everything and then lock it up. I have disabled all but the essential programs on the start-up tab.

I used to multitask numerous programs previously with minimal slowdown. I could be chatting, working on my family tree, sending messages, and even surfing multiple sites without problems. I know the machine is capable but this glitch has slowed it down down. Then it locks up whenever I try to multitask. Butch
