We are seeing a problem across the network (not all systems) where the Windows 2000 Pro Box will freeze up while Outlook 2000 is receiving an e-mail from the exchange 2000 server. The system lock can be as short as a second, and as long as 5 minutes (if the user does not get impatient and reboots).

Basic Config looks like this:

Windows 2000 sp4 with all current patches
Office 2000 current patches
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.0
ePolicy Orchestrator Agent (McAfee updating tool)

Any ideas on what can be causing the system freezes? We are getting heat from the VP's to get this solved.

Thanks,
Bryan

What happens if you turn McAfee's AV off and try receiving mail with outlook? It could be the AV scanning any mail that is incomming, more mail there is longer the machine will lock for.

You might also want to check if it's only emails that are affecting the lockup. Try copying files from the network and see if it still freezes. This may mean that the problem is in your network, not only in email.
