I opened windows explorer and there are no menus. Big pain for someone that like to use the menus for all sorts of things.

Also, its showing things that I don't want to be shown in explorer. For example, what appears to be the 'Status Bar' does not provide information related to the partition a folder is on. It gives me file specifics which I can already see because I use the detail view. It laso tell me how many items are in a folder but it doesn't give me partition data/info.

Have a look under Organize/ Layout, for the Menu Bar.

If you right-click on the Status bar, in a blank area near the lower edge, you will get an option called "Remove Properties", this contains a lot of information about the file showing in the Status Bar, including Path details. You get the same information by right-clicking on any file and selecting Properties then the Details tab.

Free space not displayed in Windows Explorer

You can have a look around these Vista articles if you like?
