i have a computer here that has many windows errors.
"ipe20 has caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll" and other similar error messages. this error occurs when i attempt to load the ulead software to scan a picture. i have reloaded the scanner drivers, reinstalled windows and have done all the troubleshooting tips to get rid of this error. i know the kernel32.dll is the i/o and memory manager so there must be a problem accessing system resources. so what do i do now?? any suggestions?

I had a scanner installed on both my comps. I used the same scanner for both and installed the same drivers. The first computer (a bit old and has the first edition of 98 on it - generaly knackered), brings up a memory error everytime it starts up. It says "Driver Memory Error" on the taskbar but this dissapears pretty quickly and causes no probems as far as I can see. This only seemed to appear after installing the drivers, but I assumed that it was as a result of the computer generally being old. However, I installed the Drivers on my new computer and guess what!?...the same problem! For vbarious reasons, I formatted the HD and reinstalled Windows without the drivers and no problems. Conclusion: It's the driver for the scanner.
So hopefully that may help diagnosing your problem. My humble opinion is that it's a driver error. Is it a USB scanner? What OS is it? Try and find out if there are any newer drivers for it. Have a good search through the manufacturers website for any new ones.
If that doesn't work, and it sounds like you might have tried that already, try different scanner software. It may not be the drivers, but actually the software. There's loads of different things out there, so have a search through Downloads.com or tucows.com for something you can try.

Hope some of that helps.
Good luck!

xscape,
A bit off of the scanner subject, but the "Driver Memory Error" you refered to is a virus. It's called "KAK Worm". It's not really harmful, just annoying. Go to and do a search on KAK and you'll find out how to get rid of it.
Every day above ground is a GOOD DAY!!!

I have removed the KAK Worm virus from several clients machines. It's not hard, just a little time consuming.

BTW--If you remove it manually, which I had to do each time, you will be making many deletions from your registry. I suggest you back up your registry before making any changes. Home: SRFlanigan@home.com

rtshort,
Yep you're right about the virus, it's always picked up by the virus checker when I send an e-mail from the old comp to the new one (with Norton on it). I knew I had one but couldn't see that it did anything. Now I know it does! Cheers! It's not done any harm so I left it there cos I'm pretty sure any new software will break my old one!! It's just a coincedence then, but just as well you pointed it out cos I was a bit reluctant to install the scanner again. Cheers m8!
