Hi all,

I pulled the plug on my PC by accident without shutting down. Since I re-connected it I have had the following problem....

The PC seems to be booting up ok and gets past the first couple of test screens etc. When the Windows 2000 Professional splash screen comes up, it says 'starting windows' and the blue progress bar at the bottom of the screen goes to the end. The screen then goes black and my monitor reports 'No Signal'. Nothing happens after this. The PC is still running and I can hear the HDD whirring away. I have to switch it off as it goes no further.

As I said, I can boot up in safe mode (networking) and all seems ok. I am linked to another computer via a switch and also to the net via a router. It is as though everything is ok except for the fact that windows will not boot normally. Has anyone come accross this before? I would really appreciate it if someone could offer me some advice. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried last known good config (from same menu as safe mode)?

When in safe mode, have a look in event viewer (run eventvwr.msc) to see if there are any clues to the problem (sounds like a driver may have become corrupted, causing the boot to hang when its being loaded - hopefully event viewer will tell you which).

You could try running sfc /scannow to check/repair your system files.

If necessary, a repair reinstall may be needed -
